I see what you mean with the Dark Souls inspiration, the dude's helm reminds me a lot of Velstadt, the bell dude. I think the inspiration taken from that and the rest of the design mesh together really nicely
COTN: Dead Ringer Boss Concept

Hey guys!
So I know the game has been out for a bit but here's the concept art of my favorite design in Crypt of the Necrodancer. It's Dead Ringer! This guy went through a bit of rough work before we decided on this look here. I was playing a lot of Dark Souls 2 at the time and definitely was influenced by their armor designs.
It was a super cool challenge to incorporate a bunch of instrumental elements into this guy and Ted really did a great job getting it into the game and matching it with the pixel artwork.

yep! that's very much the inspiration for this guy. the fencer in the game has souls vibes as well.

You did design work on Crypt of the Necrodancer? Thats one of my favorite games! This design work is pretty good, he was a memorable boss for sure. Who did all the sweet binary art for the game though?

Never too late to post something about a good game ;) Great design work here. I didn't saw him yet in the game, but im far from finished XD Im eager to see his pixel sprite now
