This is a really cool painting I made in about an hour and I used the trial version of Corel Painter 11 ad found a LOT of useful tools in it!

Not bad for a background

Don't get me wrong, I'm not slating it, saying that it's only good for a background, but I am trying to point out that you could use some additional detail in the foreground, to show focus and possibly even justify the nature of the rest of the image.

What you would put there could be a wide range of things. A boy asleep on his back, hat over his eyes and a stalk of grass hanging from his lips. A woman on a horse, riding over the ridge without a care in the world. Or, for a more grim look at it, an army marching on an opposing city, in the distance. Perhaps they are marching back, carrying wounded?

Still, aside from that, would the contrast in colour be so different, without hedgerows to divide the plant life? I was thinking more of a meadow look would have suited this. Granted, there would be shading work, but the clash of the yellows and the greens makes me feel a change of plant across the centre.

Still, a nice piece.

Thanks for the review! Yeah, I should have though about putting more details into it but thanks very much for you constructive criticism.

Very nice painting.

Very surreal, it's a picture of something that I would expect to see in my hometown when driving around in the country. The smooth colors really make it a relaxing piece. The colors are very well blended together. It's not just one color and then the next all of a sudden, they are very well mixed and matched. The colors are very fitting all in all, but shouldn't the lighter colors be closer to the front and the darker colors in the back?

All that good stuff is... good.. I would just suggest adding something to the picture. It's so empty and so bland. I had mentioned earlier that I would expect to see something like this in the country, but I lied slightly. I've never saw a landscape in my life that was that empty. I'm sure their out there, but I suggest challenging yourself by adding more wildlife, plants and/or animals.

It'll make you better as an artist and the viewers will enjoy it more!

Thanks so much for the review, It's the first review that I have got with a "8 or higher". I will try and add in more things in my next landscape.

Not bad

A pretty decent painting here although it feels like a lot of empty space. I would have found this much more interesting with a stream flowing through it or maybe a dense population of trees growing. It just seems so barren as it is, almost like an unfinished piece.

The landscape you have painted so far looks great though. I would say it shows that you have potential. Keep working at it.

Joshsouza responds:

That's actually all there was in the reference. I am pretty sure my reference was 'shopped. Thanks for the Critique. Look at my newest ones because they are much better.

cool

I like this painting I think you have improved!
