Personal Logo

Share

This is a personal logo (or at least one variation of it) that I have been working on for a while. Truth be told I first started working on figuring out a design for a personal logo about a year or so back. It wasn't until fairly recently that I was struck with the inspiration for this design. I wanted to create a personal logo for myself, my artwork and my web page when I get around to making it (which will hopefully be soon). However, this proved much more difficult than I expected due to the complex nature of what I wanted my logo to represent.

My alias as an artist is "Jibber-Zen" as you can hopefully tell. The name essentially means "randomness and order combined into a singular concept". In other words, the logo had to be designed in such a way as to illustrate a paradox.

The idea presented here depicts a cog (representing order), and tentacles (representing chaos and randomness) coming out of the cog. The cog itself is broken in half to form half or a yin-yang symbol, with a piece missing where the dot would be in it. Behind this hole there are tentacles visible. As you might have guessed, the tentacles make up the other half of the symbol. With the tentacle half though, the dot is made up of a smaller cog that has been snatched by a tentacle. This composition entwines the concepts of randomness and order in a way that feels just right to me since I like to think of my style as encompassing randomness and order.

In this particular version I added a background and border along with a representation of myself peeking over the top of the logo for the purposes of using this project as final for an upper division art course. Personally, I prefer the tentacles and cog as a stand-alone logo. The Asian aesthetic here is mainly to provide a little more to look at when presenting this piece for finals while not taking too much away from the logo itself. It's also meant to play off of the "zen" theme a bit through association.

Despite how much I like the logo itself I still see myself making improvements to it as time progresses. Then again I suppose that wouldn't be too strange seeing as how so many major entertainment companies have done the same with their logos.

Anyways, I plan to eventually put together some variations of my logo to use in opening sequences of any Flash movies/games I produce in the future.
