This is one of my latest pieces of art done for Advanced Illustration in college. The assignment was to simply create a set of instructions on how to perform a task. I decided to have some fun with the assignment and after looking for inspiration online found written instructions on how to wash a cat.

The instructions I provide here are essentially the same, but with a few minor differences in structure and word choice for artistic purposes.

Originally I was thinking of using an art style similar to the type used in instructions for how to handle an emergency on a commercial airplane. However, because I was busy with other projects and lacked the time necessary to learn to emulate that style well enough for this project I went with a more classic approach. That being the use of thick, rounded stick figures and silhouettes to convey instructions in a quick and easily understood manner. This choice was also partly a homage to those t-shirt designs giving humorous three panel instructions on how to handle different situations.

Anyways, with my piece here I chose to create a set of illustrations to accompany the written instructions I had found online. The goal I had was to accomplish this task in a simple manner that kept details to a minimum so as to not overwhelm the viewer. I also wanted to convey the humor of the instructions without the illustrations take precedence over the text, which in my mind was equally important.
Overall, this was a fun little assignment to do.

Note: I do not condone animal abuse, nor do I encourage anyone to actually try doing this to any animal. (If you tried you would probably end up with some nasty scratches and bite wounds anyways.) This is just satire, plain and simple.
