Originally this started out as a single Medusa illustration to help me practice with a few textures but as I was starting it I think on PBS one of the Andrew Sisters songs came on the TV and I got inspired to combine the two together in a anachronistic illustration. I am also very tempted to due a series of anachronistic illustrations.

In one of the stories: Medusa was a priestess of Athena and had an affair with or was raped by Neptune inside the temple. Back in those days if a woman was raped in her house hold she was at fault and was the one punished but if it was outside of her home then the man was a fault, since it happened in the temple and because she was a priestess, she was then punished by Athena to become a gorgon.

Photoshop CS3 20+ hours.

The Greek gods were the real monsters. They were corrupted power at it's purest form, and mortals like Medusa suffered because of it. Really good art, man.
