The People Have Spoken

This is just me, but it reminds me of goulum/shmegal from LOTR and the red backdrop is like the light of mordoor. Although having said that, I don't think goulum wore baggy pants. As an abstract or surreal work this works very nicely, excellent lighting and shading.
The surrealism of the shape of his head and face round out the piece very well. I think even less emphasis on realism of anatomy would have been nice.
The posture is very unusual, and detracts from the humanity of the subject, which distances me from this piece and prevents me from becoming absorbed by it. It also deepens the dark mood, which I find pleasant.
I have nothing to say about shading that hasn't already been said, save for a complaint about the redness of the shading on the subject's right leg, which given the source of the light, shouldn't have received much red at all.

Thanks for the detailed review :D
Waaaaugh, it is sad day
Author's Response:
ohlolwat.
Well, firstly I'd have to say that the lighting is more-or-less perfect and the shading is spot on. I also like the use of the smudge (?) tool to blend it all together quite well.
Personally, I don't see the head's odd shape to be a problem, at all. I think it significantly adds to the drawing's surreal side, which I think is very good.
My main recommendation would be to add more detail to the hands, feet and head. Otherwise, it's a great drawing.
It's very erm noir/dark, and it's absolutely awesome!

Thanks
First of all I'd like to say nice work, you stile is very nice, but the person's face ends a bit too abruptly and if you ask me the ear should be a bit more to the back and somewhat higher than it is right now.
Otherwise great piece of art, I love the shading, specially the way you combined the red influences with the rest of the lighting, good job
Author's Response:
Thanks.
I agree on the face.
The glow cast over the ground and subject fit very nicely, and blend well with the shades of white and grey. A couple suggestions, however: The right knee seems a bit flat, perhaps rounding it a bit more would suggest a more anatomical sense. Also, as you mentioned, the face is a bit...off...And what happened to the hair? Overall, this piece has a good subject matter and idea, but the delivery was a bit less than desirable. It's still a great piece of work, it could just use some adjustments.
Author's Response:
I originally drew him without hair. It's kind of a weird transition to the neck, though, so I probably should have.
And yeah, the knee's a bit off.
Thanks for the review.
