The Five(-ish) Doctors

Couldn't help slipping in that Doctor Who reference in the title of this one xD

With all the hype for the Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy going around I thought it would be fun to try something I never done before and draw the major doctor characters from the trilogy. It was a lot of fun to draw these characters and I think it tuned out well for a first serious attempt (the background not so much ... I suck at BGs xP xD).

I hope you all like this one! :D And please leave feedback... I could use it so I can improve my Backgrounds xD

*Dr. Cortex, N.Gin, N.Tropy, and N.Brio are the property of Activision... For now until the rights shift again xD

I really like how you did the shading here. Maybe you could have had a little purple light coming from the crystal, shining on Cortex's face?

The background doesn't look too bad either.

Thanks for the feedback ^u^

I do need to get back into playing around with lighting and reacting to light, will probably do some practice in the future

Admittedly I've only played the first Crash Bandicoot game, and never even finished it, but that doesn't hinder my appreciation of this work. The doctors are placed well such that the focal points are evenly spread throughout the work, and the background helps out in this regard by not forcing its presence through to the fore. The use of monochrome shading plus flat coloring is appropriate considering that the light source is likely a very strong outdoor spotlight, like Bat-signal strength.

Very nice. This work has a bit of a Gurren Lagann feel to it, with the shading being reminiscent of how aforementioned show had its commercial cut splash art.

If I had to criticize anything about it, it would be that you have several light sources in the picture that don't apply light to the picture. Even if we say that the circle on the floor was just paint and not a light strong enough to affect any kind of shadow, the crystal in Dr. Cortex's hand and floating in the top left corner are definitely glowing with enough luminescence to provide its own glow effect. As such, the fact that the purple and blue light from them are just cut out on Dr. Cortex's hand and on the other various shadows and surfaces of the room is sort of disappointing.

HOwLiNG-MAdFoxHatter responds:

Thanks for the feedback :D

Yeah the lighting is all over the place because I was jumping around between stages ^ . ^;

Next time I probably should actually establish the light sources first before jumping to shading since that would help give direction for where the light would hit
