A sketch I did on a train with only 4 manga inking pens at my disposal. Shading is not great, but I kind of like the picture.

Nice

So this was a nice drawing you have here, the view screen was small so maybe making a lrager view screen would be a plus here, and even some added color maybe some colored borders would be nice, but you do some nice shading and nice character overall.

Meh

Well my first reaction to this submisison is "meh". I found this submission to be a bit dull, and I know the materials you had to your disposal, but compared to the rest of the art portal this is really dark, dull and gloomy otherwise. I did particularly like the way the hair looked and how you didn't keep the same color throughout that, but by the same token I disliked the shade on her skin in general, because it did not look realistic at all. Overall, well it's an average submission in general I'd say.

Harukawa responds:

Thank you.

I know greytone drawings are not a favorite in the art portal, so that is fine. I know this is not my best work, but I like the character so I am biased hehe.

The 'skin' on her legs is actually leggings of a darker shade than her actual skin, which is why it is darker than the face and arms, though I do agree the 'tone' is off. (I know the neck looks bad... I started it, and had gone too far with it, so I had to live with it :P)

You can say this drawing was kind of an experiment to play with dynamic cell-shading like shadows since I only had 4 shades of gray to work with, and I really do appreciate the feedback and for letting me know that it did not exactly work hehe. Thank you :)

Very nice.

I'm not going to comment on the lack of face, because I know that inking pens aren't great for small details, as they tend to bleed on the paper a bit (which is probably what happened to the hand too).

I quite like it. Backgrounds, please! :P

Harukawa responds:

Thank you.

Yes, the ink bled into the hand and kind of erased it. Not good.

I will try to do backgrounds, but I am more of a character conceptualist, so even though I -can- do backgrounds, it is not my strong suit.
