Baby Chamberlain Skeksis

Share

I haven't done one of these in a while :)

My entry for Jazza's COTM: AGESWAP. A baby version of the Skeksis from Jim Henson's Dark Crystal, the Chamberlain to be precise.

This was a lot of fun - once I figured out what I wanted to draw. My art tends to be "cute" & colorful, but for some reason the one contest where that would be appropriate I decided to try something a bit muted and grotesque! It's called a "challenge" for a reason :P

Anyway, Good luck to all the participants and fingers crossed! Mama needs a new tablet!

Yeah he is an ugly little thing, but very well drawn. I had the same problem with choosing a concept for this months challenge too. I think this could definitely win.

Only a face a mother could love. :) Thanks!

Great work, i think you don't need the background the way you have is great. Leave the viewer to use their imagination. But great piece i add this to my favorites.

GirlGregg responds:

Thank you very much!

This little fella is absolutely amazing! Even the little hairs on the moles on the top of his head can be seen! All the wrinkles and details on the tongue are really well thought out and done! The only problem with this is that there's not a distinct background. I can make out there being some sort of a nest, and that it's blurry, but that's about it. Though, you did draw the shell of the egg scattered about, which most people tend to overlook. This is just amazingly well done. Shaded, colors mesh well, lighted, and the entire idea in general is astounding! Really wonderful job! It wouldn't surprise me if you won! You even shaded the shells lying about the ground! Props to you, friend!

GirlGregg responds:

Thank you for the wonderful critique! I'm glad you like it. I was really focusing on color and lighting! That you noticed is awesome! I agree that I could have done more in the background. I just got a little tired towards the end of the piece and wanted it to look cohesive. I really like your Smaug piece and how you created depth with the piles of gold. The dragon's expression is really well drawn! Great job, good luck, and thanks again!
