I don't get it.. it looks really good to me.. why it only gets 1/2 stars?
well.. adding a little more details on the saber surface would be nice.. ^^

Not as bad as the one with the green background, but still pretty ugly. Also, I can see people giving you 5/5 because it's a lightsaber and they think "Ohhhh, so cool" and stuff. But really! If you get lovely comments about work which sucks you'll just keep doing it that way because you think it's good because other people think they like it! If noone are honest with you, there is no way you'll ever improve.. Unless you reach Nirvana or something...
As said before; consider working a little bit more on the final render before posting it here. Also, you do know there is a button which allows you to post this, but not actually include it in the Art Portal which indicates that it's not final work.. Because I hope this is not final! Good luck on your skills BTW! Half a star for the effort, yay!

Nice, the angling is good, i suggest re-texturing the handle to make it look a bit "used" otherwise, it's damn sexy.
