I have had a lot of people over the last year or two tell me that a lot of my work reminds them of The Muppets. Thats probably because a lot of the inspiration for my designs comes from not only growing up with all of these amazing characters, but also wanting to be able to design with that same sense of freedom as The Muppets appeared to have. Most of the characters cant be pigeon holed as this or that, Gonzo is just one of many many… well, “whatever’s” as they later called them. I think, looking at my work now, thats also why those influences are coming through so clearly, I want to be able to draw whatever I want and have people accept the character for whatever it is, and so far I don’t think I have had anyone ask me what a character was so I guess i’m doing something right. Anyway, seeing as i’m so influenced by these guys when Frederator started a collab to celebrate the launch of the new film I had to put my hand up and say yes. I chose Dr teeth, not because he’s my favourite Muppet as a character (although he’s not far off) but rather because he is my favourite Muppet in terms of pure design.
