I've been waiting a decent amount of time to do this portrait... Jim Morrison has got to be one of my biggest inspirations, and maybe even one of the greatest influences on my personality. He was incredibly intelligent, sophisticated, and he wasn't afraid to speak his mind or show his imperfections. Whenever people would hear about the man, they would always want to hear his music and turn away from his poetry. I think this was the most realistic person I could've ever thought of, next to my mother, and she was also rather fond of his work before her passing recently. Not many people nowadays look back on his work other than what he had done for The Doors, but I for one am still looking forward to reading more of his poetry and the very many things he has said in his life. This, to me, was his more realistic self. Truthfully paying no mind to the changes, and he hadn't looked any better to me. He looked great in his younger years, but I see his more poetic side in the reference I had used for this piece. The decision to make the portrait out of this version of himself was based souly around that (also the fact that I can't draw younger Morrison), and I'm really hopeful that you all will like it (including the band and Jim themselves). I felt like doing something because I love his groups music and his work to no end; making a portrait is honestly one of the best ways I can see myself doing something for someone. Even though he maybe with us no longer, he is still alive... For the Lizard King, I hope you're well and I bet you're well. I'm thinking he didn't like the thought of people remembering him, but I really can't help it... This one goes out to you, Jim! I wish I'd met you...
