Man of Steel: Faora-Ul

Share

So I thought the 'Man of Steel' movie was awesome. I've had my fair share of Superman-hating in the past and probably still won't consider the character as a favorite, but this had the movie buff/critic in me completely satisfied.

Not diving into the plot, to avoid spoilers, straight off, I thought there was an excellent use of special effects; like Avatar, this is a movie I might have to go back to and see in 3-D. The fight scenes easily beat out any that I've seen in movies so far, and the intensity reminded me of the anime series, DBZ. The story was relatively down-to-earth given the magnitude of what was going on. They did make Superman's powers feel like they were a little more conceivable, and they definitely toned down his uber-ness. The camera shots were very well selected given the speed of which some of the action was happening; I was able to follow some of the more subtle movements during the fight scenes, and they hardly, if ever, had to resort to slow motion shots. All the plot holes that I noticed weren't glaring enough to be inexcusable, and they didn't use any hokey lines, like "Kneel before Zod!", thank god!

Some of the characters, or acting maybe, felt a little out of place at times. I felt like Faora-Ul, here, played a better villain than General Zod did. I found myself wanting to see more of her.

Overall, I say it's definitely worth seeing, buying, and the price of a theater trip. The 2 hours and 30 minutes went by in no time at all.
