A few years back, my dad bought me a really rusty German helmet, when I first got it, twas crumbling in the box. Three coats of polyurethane later and it was solid, so I went shopping for the Luftwaffe decal which was a perfect fit, followed by another coat of polyurethane to seal it in. I decided to make it wearable, so I took measurements and went shopping for the liner, which I could of went slightly smaller as I had a hard time jamming it into the helmet. Lucky for me, I already had pins for a German helmet on hand, so I simply painted them with Testors "rust" and installed them, which was just as painful as installing the liner... like paper cut painful...
Out of the four German helmets I have, this is the only one that fits my head, probably be great if I had a costume to go with it. I don't believe someone was wearing this helmet when it was lost on the battlefield, there were no traces of the original liner, which I doubt removing to wear was a common practice in the German military...
