"V" is the greatest man that holds a symbol; that represents the power of the people. An unknown man wearing a Guy Fawkes mask, showing everyone that the mask can be everyone. What the fascists did to him was monstrous, and they created a monster. "V" inspired hope to the people, to fight on and never turn back; in the comic world and real world alike.
