I think this could have been better if it were just a landscape painting without the creature in the background. Also, the foreground and middle ground are left deserted, which is a waste of nearly half the canvas. I like the shadows on the tree's side, but the creature doesn't have a shadow of its own. The sky was done nicely, though not extravagantly; but because of the plain theme of this piece, it matches perfectly.
