Hecate

Share

2008. Watercolor. Fairly small (A few inches by several). A bit of a different piece, because I was trying to showcase more of the symbology surrounding the Greek goddess Hecate (or Hekate) & what she's all about, mainly crossroads, choices, the night, magic, the number 3. I painted up the things she is associated with, like the dog is representing her, there's a snake, a key. The "Lampades" are the torch-bearing nymphs behind her, they accompanied her in her goings to and from the underworld. Also on the right is her name in Greek. I enjoyed using actually shiny silvery paint for her outline, also gold for the key. Really makes a painting neat to look at when it's shining.

love the art very lovely, but the symbolism of your description just made me think of boondock saints.

Interesting, haven't heard that before...
