My mom found a huge Snapping turtle near the canal and snapped a picture. This got a silver key in Scholastics for 2015-2016 school year. I used Pen and watercolor on the turtle and portions of the background. Then layers acrylic paint in the foreground. Finally I added colored pencil over all of it.

Now this was pretty amazing, the "DETAIL" is so realistic and the backround is just as good so nice job here very realistic style here, and this is one of those pieces that you dont need any changes its a beautifull art piece as is, so really fantastic job here.

Really nice work with the pen in this one, adding the lines; making it both a bit comic-ish, yet adding a sense of depth and realism at the same time... it doesn't look like a photo, but I think it might be more due to the vivid colors surrounding the turtle, than the motive itself, it's all surprisingly realistic. A very calm piece to look at too, ambient and pure.
