My Lizards And I

Share

This piece portrays my two bearded dragons and I back in late 2013. I remember having them on my shirt and playing with them when my mom took this picture. I do not own them anymore, two lizards were too much to handle and they started costing too much, so now they are split up with less busy families who can give them the attention I could not provide. I wanted to use cool colors to convey happiness with the lizards being the main focal point of the piece.

Before I move on to medias, I'd like point out that these bearded dragons were the ones I got my username from back in 2011 when I got them, it just stuck. I plan to never change my tag (DragonKeeper or Dk for short), so I guess these guys will always be part of my art.

This was drawn and painted using thick layers of graphite, then layers of watercolor, and many layers of chalk pastel. The picture provided is of the piece in its early stages, to show that it's original. You can kinda see the reference in the picture as well.

Very nice

So this was another very nice "PIECE" love the bearded dragons, the painting was very pleasent on the eyes and this was a very beautifull visual, so nice work here, I cant find any need for any changes as it was just a beautifull piece as is, anyways keep up the brilliant work.

Interesting story behind the portrait, and how it formed your name. As for the image, it's interesting how the picture focuses on the lizards too, and of your face we see only the smile, like a divine entity casting down his light from above, unto a world where smaller creatures thrive. Less symbolically: you become like a background, and they the focus.

At first I was going to say something witty about how they're... maybe after the chip on your shoulder (not that you have a chip on your shoulder, it just seemed witty)? It's a nice portrait, with warm and natural colors (skin tone isn't always all natural, but it feels like it reflects the lizard tone somehow; looks good that way), and a cozy pastel texture to eternalize and add dimension. Nice work!

I love the layers of depth in this piece. the chalk gives it a great texture, almost making your art look like it is made from folded paper! I especially love how crisp your edges are and the strong color contrast between the foreground and the background.
the only critique I can think of is some of the shading on the neck looks slightly off.

Side note: your WIP is not a public link. you might want to fix that.

Oops, I'll fix that
