This is Goodbye Grandpy

This is a midly irritated response to liliotheone or whatevers, attempt at faking a piece in chalk pastel. I don't really have any reason other than I've seen the rest of his work and it just upsets me that he's getting pats on the back for bull.

The original intention of this piece was to commemorate the passing of my grandfather who died one year ago. This is a portrait of him sleeping on his deathbed shortly before he passed. In a rare moment of peace on his face, I grabbed the look I wanted and began to draw. This is done in pencil. Conte. Chalk Pastel and a tiny ink underlayer for colour luminosity. The poem to match is as follows.

You've known my face and I yours too
Since times long forgotten to both me and you
We've walked long both down the path in sight
Ones slightly brighter than the others can light
Our hardships are plenty both mine and yours
Yours pains lived long now ours to endure
Our heartache is mixed with guilt and remorse
As we wish that your life could slow it's course
The pain you feel we could never know as real
But we know the one way for all to heal
We let you go now with the heaviest of hearts
This goodbye we plead is but a new start
A beginning to a time much better than present
A wish for an existence that is much more pleasant
This poem is a sad attempt at farewell
Full of cliches that will likely damn me to hell
But please know that what I've said is true
This is my last farewell for now Grandpy
I Love You.

Yet again...

Amazing. Though, I see the pinky finger of the hand seems to disappear. Perhaps its just the shading. I know your intention was to have it flexed...Myself, I know that I probably would've filled the rest of the hand with shading as well. Hands are the greatest obstacle in art and sometimes you can capture their position and motion with shades and tones and,"imply" their existence.

DevOnNewG responds:

Ahahaha, wow. I've had this piece kicking around for a year now and that is the first time I've really noticed that pinky. Damn, thanks man. I know to watch out for it. I should define it a tiny bit more, but that area was dark if I do recall. I have a few pieces where I just didn't do the hands and implied them. Very much like that method lol
