Great work on your part. I've just always struggled to reconcile the use of a brush preset. If someone made a brush that created realistic looking hair in one stroke, would you use it? At what point do you say "you know what? This shortcut is making things too easy and is actually hurting me instead of helping."

Yes, I may use it at some extent, but just because I know how hair works, not a master on it but I can kinda make it look decent. In my opinion using a "magic" brush that can recreate hair (or whatever) in a single stroke without having the knowledge of how hair works it will still look bad and will hurt your painting. So I never had that thought, I'm just using special brushes to speed up a process that I already know. Hope this answers it :)
