cubic embrace

Share

this was painted for Tate's Comics "Bear & Bird" gallery, for the event Square Show 2 event. the figures in their embrace create a floating cube.

i must admit this was hard for me due to the size. i usually paint much bigger that 12"x12". it was difficult to do details and successful gradient tones with acrylic on this size for me. but oh well. i do like the size and if i paint again i might use Golden Open acrylics for smoother color tonality.

this was painted on a square masonite board with was prepped for painting. i coated it with gloss varnish which gives it a more candy coat look, specially on the pink color. this was a scan of the painting and due to the gloss it has weird shimmery strips in the scanned final. whatevs!

I tend to over analyze but I really love (whether you meant to or not) how the flesh colored character is like represent Human kind and the blue is like the Ethereal or light and then you have the Red Devil lookin guy and they are all perfectly balanced. Both the Ethereal being and the human have eye's closed in trust and the devil is open-eyed but without any maliciousness....idk i'm thinkin about this way too much but, it's just really good i love it basically is all i'm tryna say lol

great analysis!
when it comes to finding a meaning in art/photography/film i think anything goes. and i like your description a lot. i kinda went with typical stereotypes when it came to picking subjects. you have the warm soft woman, the cold distant man, and lust/sex which most of the time brings these two opposite stereotypes together. i'm not a religious person though i do find the stories in the bible crazy scary and interesting (and most of all silly, lol). and american being a very large christian country i felt the stereotype of the devil as sex fit.

thanx for the review btw, it was great.

i don't know if you meant it like this but it looks like the red figure wants to keep the blue and yellow figure apart because his hands are facing outward as if ready to push them apart...
though it might just seem like that to me
nonetheless i must say it's a great work you made their
the little blush on the yellow figure gives a nice touch

datamouth responds:

thanx!
i do see what you are talking about. my intent was to have his hands come out of the center, kinda represent what is happening between them. which is sex. thanx for the critique!

Very pretty picture, well rendered too. Would look good on my wall!

datamouth responds:

well if you live in the Miami/Lauderdale/Miramar area you will be able to buy the piece! it will be on display thru March at Tate's Comics "Bear & BIrd" gallery.

thanx for the comment!

datamouth responds:
