Author's Comments

It's Mewtwo again! This is just me having fun in ZBrush 3.0. Pretty much just sat down and started messing around. ZBrush is a pretty powerful tool, and this is just scratching the surface - it's really little more than a doodle.
This is a CG bust of my earlier sketch.

Mewtwo and all the rest of those damn pokeymanz © Nintendo.

That's really cool but it's true: add realism and the cute factor kinda goes away ^^;

Really cool though o.o

"ZBrush"

never heard of the program, i'll have to check it out, and as for this i thought it was a bust scale model of clay or something rather, not too sure what ZBrush makes someone capable of, but still very awesome. MewTwo looks very awesome in RL :)

Author's Response:

ZBrush is a whole lot of fun to mess around in. You can download the 30 day trial from their website (it's not very big, either). It's a lot like clay modeling, where you build up and break down the subject like you're adding or removing clay. This particular model started out as a ball, and I just built it up. It's really easy to do, and as I said, this picture is just scratching the surface of what ZBrush is capable of. I totally recommend trying it out if you have a moderate to high-end computer.

Author's Response:

Well, thanks a lot, man. Now I'm going to have that horribly disturbing image floating around in my head every time I look at this picture.

Why... WHY did you have to say that!? :P

I like the realistic take on pokemon. Honestly id love to see you do a whole series on them haha. I dabled in zbrush a little and never could get it to do exactly what i wanted. Very nice for just starting out. Keep it up i know zbrush is a hard program to master and you seem to be going in a good direction.

i think its an awesome take on realism and pokemon i almost did think it was a sculpture then i actually payed attention
i think the overall execution is rad only stylistically i would give him more emotion or at least a more emotional countenance and color would be nice

Unlike the majority of your reviewers, whom I assume know nothing of ZBrush from their comments, I do know it. This is nice, but with the tools ZBrush gives you there is so much you can do. I don't know. I suppose because I know how very, very simple it is to make nicely detailed things in ZBrush that I'm being so critical. Anyway, it's nice but not "OMG! I TOUGHT DIS WUS A SCULPTURE."

June 28, 2009

Author's Response:

Like I've said before, I am a newbie at ZBrush - this was just the result of my playing around. You are quite correct that there's a lot more that can come out of ZBrush, and I'm kind of surprised I've gotten so many good reviews. This is essentially a doodle.

Heh, thanks, I guess..?
Like I said in the description, I was really just playing around with this one. I'm still learning the program. I'm a CGT student, and most of my actual instruction has been in Maya.

And while I appreciate your honesty, I'd have appreciated some constructive criticism/feedback even more. ;)

Did you do all the modeling in Zbrush or did you use something like maya to make the basic mesh?

June 27, 2009

Author's Response:

This particular model was made entirely in ZBrush. I started with a ball and built it up from there :)
