My submission for the NG Print Calendar 2010.

Really enjoyed painting this; it's pretty simple and I managed to create it in two sittings (plus some minor adjustments at the end). I love this character, and this is what he looks like in my head when playing the Dad 'n Me game!

There have been some really, really great submissions for the contest and it's a great chance to have your artwork featured alongside other cool artists; so if you are looking at this on the day of posting, you should join in (be quick though since the deadline is tomorrow: 09.15.09 at 11.59PM EST)! Haha ^_^

There's never enough of this dark/awesome stuff around on the net. :) Great job.
don't screw with ya dad lol
Really like how you did this. Love the texture on the eyes and skull.
Dude, this is way too beast!
Awesome Job
you rule
Very dark in nature but also very precise, not a pixel out of place. The fact that there are still red eyes in the sockets gives it that "is it really dead?" feeling, almost like it could end up being Zombie Dad.
Looks Real :D
It's really...REALLY good.
A simple concept...but stylish and extremely realistic.
This skull fkn rocks dude, keep it up.
i love it, you are a really good artist,. keeep it up sorry for bad spelling
Super cool, a little fear crept down my spine when i fist look at this work of art.
I do agree mic fire 999 there, this will have a long life on my desktop.
The realism really gives you a feel of what "dad" really represents. He is downright intimidating and the eyes add a nice touch.
This is a real work of art imo, and it will sit on my desktop for a while.
Keep it up!
What I love about music and art is the ability to adjust my imagination to create my own desired story or scene based on the tone or atmosphere. This my friend, achieves this.
Staring directly into the daddy's eyes brings me into realization that this is the last thing I'll be seeing besides my own insides. What an amazing and intimidating painting this is! Good work 10/10 and I do not throw perfect scores as easily as others do.
ive never actually looked at art and been scared ...and a drawing of dad n me nonetheless.....grea job
looks great the detail is phenomenal, keep up the good work.
One of the best depictions of the Dad ever! The Mask and the eyes are what just awsome, I would love to see this on a t-shirt.
I think there's a lot of good detail here. Keep it up or I'll hit you with a meteor.
nice but kinda ugly sooo 9

So only pretty art gets a 10? Maybe you could be more specific when giving critical feedback in future. Thanks!
this is nuts. i like those eyes. they're staring me down, undressing me. and then they ask is something wrong, they say you're damn right there is but we can't talk about it now... good work!
Author's Response:
I'm so glad someone finally gets it. It's all about those vulnerable, intimate moments. Nomnomnom
hardcore,and hilarious,perfect :'D
Great interpretation of what he could look like. You make him look even more aggressive.
textures and all are perfect he looks so evil and intimidating!!!!
omigod! this is absolutey brilliant:-D!!!
Great contribution.. I think it'd be pretty awesome to see, but I'd feel kinda creeped out. lol.
For an ENTIRE month, you got Dad just pissed and staring at you with his blood-red eyes... :P
Anyways, awesome work. Love the details, it almost looks like a photo... 10'd. 5/5'd.
Author's Response:
Thank you. Yeah, I didn't ask for a specific month, but it would probably work best in one of the winter months since it is such a dark image. I mean.. you COULD have him staring you down during Easter holidays or Valentine's Day, but would you really want... hmm.. wait, I don't see a problem with this, now that I think about it.
Thank you for your comment!
I love it, I admit it took me a minute to realise what "Dad" it was, but that only made it cooler when I realized that it was the NG dad. Very creepy and cool.
totally looks like a ful-length movie piece of art something or over. it looks that good. dad could kick hulk and the things ass..... booyah
damn! D: this looks awesome o_o
amazing! i can see Dad looking like this in real life lol scary thought. very cool
i agree with mindchamber
I hope it gets in, I want to see it on my wall :-D
Author's Response:
Thanks, me too. ^_^
did you do it digitally, or physically on paper/canvas. Either way it's really refined...I gotta work on some more stuff in color. Only thing I'd say is what my art teachers say, which is do something with the negative space (yes, it pisses me off too) and maybe part of that could be adding more diverse lighting or other effects.
Author's Response:
Hi turma13. It is a digital painting created in Adobe Photoshop CS2.
I appreciate that you'd want to put into practice what you are learning from your art tutors, but I would also beware of building more than is necessary in a picture just for the sake of having all the space filled.
When you want to draw the eye towards something you can either have the object stand alone (or nearly alone; in this case with darkened purples to accommodate a feature central object of the skull mask), or you can use shapes of colour/shade throughout the image (even filling in the negative space). The only sections that hold negative space are in the top corners of the image, and I don't think they hold a significant percentage of space.
Depending on the type of art you are working with, you might want to challenge your art tutors about negative space. "Negative" space does not necessarily equate to a "negative" aspect of an image and can often be a way of enhancing the focal point of an image, overall - like with vignetted illustrations/icons/logos.
I'm grateful for your review. Thanks!
Man how did you do that that's the best drawing I'v ever seen so far you should make a t-shirt if you do I will buy for me and my dad he will love it thanks to you
Total new look for him, but still keepin' it the same.
Well i guess with such a face, and body, Junior and his Dad will easily one day save us all from obliteration....
Great work at creating a realistic version of dad! Or yeah, well, his face anyway. I really have nothing bad to say about this, it's rather simple but still surprisingly refreshing. Seeing as this is already featured, it'll probably hit the calendar too. I really hope so anyway.
Excellent fan art Cosmic!
i love you
yeah i love this one
