Big drawing for my fundamentals class. The assignment was to take three masters paintings and combine them into one composition.

Paintings used:

Saint Anne and the Virgin - Albrecht Durer
Hercules and Achelous - Cornelis van Haarlem
Near Sundown - Grant Wood

Dimensions: 5' x 3'
Medium: Charcoal and White Conte Crayon on brown packaging paper
Time Spent: 9-10 hours

Sacrilege!

I suppose Saint Anne will at some point see this and...uhm..will summon forth the wrath of the heavens at you...just joking, the combination actually looks quite good, though the background of Near Sundown slightly suffers from the lack of colors (which doesn't really matter, since it is in this case a question of material).

The only thing I'm really missing is Hercules strangulating poor Saint Anne..that would not only safe you from her...wrath most sacred....but would also look incredibly funny.
