This priestess is dancing in honor of Damballah, the serpentine Sky Father and Creator (and thus most important deity) of the voodoo religion. Don't worry, the python is her loyal pet, and they're not venomous.

My favorite part about drawing voodoo ladies is portraying them in a way that's sensual and maybe superficially sinister but not truly threatening. I like the idea of a voodoo priestess who is beautiful both inside and out despite the "demonic" or "savage" stereotypes imposed onto her religion.
