This is based off the discovery of an upper-class Roman woman of African descent (as indicated by the features of her skeletal remains) in the British city of York (then known as Eboracum). Known as the Ivory Bangle Lady, her presence attests to the diversity of the Roman imperial population even in places as far-flung as northern Britain. She might be a literal example of an ancient Afro-Latina (that is, a Latin chick of African descent)!
