Not yet a queen

It is the day of Princess Zelda's coronation - the day after her father's funeral.

On this day, she wears the royal battle armour which - as tradition specifies - is removed once she reaches the throne, a ceremony representing the long years of peace in the kingdom, and that she like her predecessors will uphold that peace. It is the only day the armour is used before being stored away for the next coronation.

However, as ancient Hylian law dictates, a king or queen clad in armour may be lawfully challenged by any who claim they are unworthy to rule. If their claim holds true, the crown falls to the royal advisor. At this time, the advisor is a man named Ganondorf. And, on this day, he is also the one to challenge Zelda for the right to rule.

Knowing she cannot best him in combat, and suspecting for too long that Ganondorf has had dark motives, the princess reaches to the throne. Embedded in its surface rests the King's Bow, and a single Light Arrow. It is meant to serve as the last barrier between the throne and the forces of evil, and is only to be used as a last resort.

Ganondorf is no fool, and Zelda is trying too hard to prove she is fit to be queen. The armor she wears was crafted for combat in the midst of a battle, not archery. Ganondorf stands confident, waiting for Zelda to attempt to pull back the bowstring...

I like the idea that Ganondorf's power is not only physical, but mental as well. Sure, he could take the kingdom by force, but that risks a future rebellion. If he finds a loophole in the system - old laws that were relevant at the time - and uses them to obtain the throne, then no-one can oppose his rule. He's a patient man, waiting for the king to die of old age, so he cannot be implicated in the death.

Zelda is wise, but Ganondorf is cunning.

Anyway yeah, just something I was thinking about :B

I really like it, her face is so fierce. I don't think her face looks like her although we don't know what she would look like if she were this realistic really, it's up to the imagination. There is something about her upper body that is off. I think it is her arms, they seem too skinny considering she has this big armor on. Also, the chest of the armor blends almost like the body of a man, it doesn't look like armor at all. It looks kind of like if a chubby guy with a gut were to suck in his stomach so much and so hard that it poofs his chest, like on the old cartoons when they hold their breath to walk tough like they had a bunch of muscles or something.

You are very talented and I love this piece despite its flaws I've mentioned, and reading your caption has thrown me into one of my Zelda moods as well. I am a HUGE fan of Zelda - I have the Triforce on my arm and everything.

Fix the armor to look more like actual armor, but have it fit her body a little better, and watch the arms because they look too long and skinny to me, but that may change once the body is fixed. Put some more detail into the whole picture for example, her dress. Show the beauty her dress itself holds. I've always imagined that it would weigh a ton having metal like mesh layered on top of soft fabric almost like her dress is made from armor, but still just a dress. You put so much detail and effort into your cation, you should have your art piece match.

Overall, you did a great job no matter what. And, hey, lets face it, it's better than what I could have done and I am no art critique. =) Draw more Zelda stuff!! I am waiting for Lake Hyilia stuff from someone! Pleeeease! I do think judging by your style you would be great at the landscape parts of Zelda, you do have the colors down almost perfectly. Keep it up!! =) More!!

I have a tendency to draw slightly masculine features on girls... not sure why :B

As I describe in the Author Comments, she is wearing part of the royal battle armor - handed down through the monarchy, and so was not made to fit our young princess. It's only worn for this one moment, as a long-practiced tradition, so there's never been a need to resize it. The dress, yeah, could be more spectacular probably - but I wouldn't make it armoured, since the idea is that she wears her true garb beneath the armour. The aim of this drawing was to show how out of her element she is - half-armoured with an ill-suited weapon, right after her father has died - and yet still show she is trying to act like the queen she needs to be. She will NOT allow Ganondorf to make her seem weak. Not now, when everything relies on her seeming the strongest in the room.

In retrospect of completion, there are still tweaks I want to make on the armour... but I prefer to learn as I go. So we'll see what happens with the next one :)

I have a couple more Lost Woods drawings in my head, so you'll probably see those soonish. After that, we will see! Maybe Lake Hylia will turn up too :)

:3 I like it
