Though the Stripent are a generally peaceful and pacifistic herbivorous race, a tragedy in their past brought about an exception. Many years ago when the Stripent were first experimenting in warp technology to make their spacecraft capable of traversing farther distances an experimental prototype spacecraft had a warp drive malfunction, it warped without properly setting a destination and marking to have a means of returning to Elaptra, the ship with it's crew of 1024 Stripent were lost in an instant and communication and retrieval was impossible.

The ship drifted through uncharted space for many months, their food reserves were not fitted for such lengthy travel and the passengers were beginning to starve, luckily they managed to find a small planetoid to land upon which happened to sport life.... Animal, that is, the planetoid they discovered seemed to house little to no plant life, the plants that it did house did not fruit and were hardly edible, stricken by desperation the crew began to hunt and devour the small creatures native to the planet.

Generations passed and before long the crew of 1024 had begun their own expanding colony on the planetoid, salvaging and building off of their knowledge and supplies from their ship, life was hard however, these Stripent no longer were peaceful and cheery like their brethren from Elaptra, they became vicious, aggressive, blood-thirsty and snappy, sporting large fangs as well, a new subspecies of Stripent was born. Nowadays the planetoid and colony has been rediscovered, but they remain a sovereign nation as they are too aggressive to be members of the Universal Alliance, they are not members of Elaptra. Members of this aggressive breed of Stripent mostly boast a criminal lifestyle and are privy to space piracy. Because they are not capable of feeding upon their homeworld's fruit they are all black and white, or black and red, this causes problems for Stripent that are not from Elaptra and are monochromatic as many aliens instantly assume they are related to the aggressive subspecies and are often feared.
