The extravagant design and obsidian glass it’s made from makes it completely worthless for combat, which worked just fine for its intended role as a piece of decoration and not an actual weapon. Even after going through several hands and gaining magical significance, it would almost always remain sheathed, until its wielder found a way to turn its brittle properties into a combat advantage.
