This is the Black Rat. He was my very first ideal for a comic. It has been sometime since I have drawn him. He has alot of the abilities of a rat relative to a human being. For anyone who knows about rats, this makes him pretty sly. Bat man wouldn't know what hit him with this guy lurking about.

He's not an anti hero, as most would assume. He's just your everyday nice guy working for the peace.

I must admit, for all the time I put into this, I'm not very pleased. I worked on the foreground (i.e. the black rat) for a while. I think I did a little to much on the inking. I love his Chedar Axe though (not made of real cheese obviously)

The background is supposed to look cartoony. I wanted it to give more of a 50's comic book feel and at the same time not draw attention away from the real effort put into the hero.

hmmm notbad

~~REVIEW~~
the character was the main focus here which seems very welldone, but that building in the backround doesnt match to well, the main character has a 3d feel while the building is more of a "FLAT" feel to it and all

~~THINGS TO IMPROVE ON~~
Work on making the building not look so flat it needs some sorta 3d portions so that it all matches with the character at hand

~X~

Thank ya very much ^_^

Yeah, I need to work on my backgrounds for sure. >_<

Well......

This is just my opinion. The concept of a super rat with a cheese ax just doesn't appeal to me. Neither does the cartoonish 50's comic book background. But I give it a 3 for effort and creativity. For me, it would've been better "darker". Add a bit more shadows and dark colors so I can take your superhero a bit more seriously. Or you could've made him into a twisted criminal that you'd only see in a Batman comic. A bit more detail and "cold, dark city"-ish theme would help too. Like wind carrying dead leaves or a few pieces of paper. Or a few birds flying above. A full moon and a more detailed sky would also add to the effect.
Hey, this is just my opinion, it is after all, my review. :)

Your opinion is valued ^_^.

I was thinking of doing another one with that "cold, dark city" feel that you described. Problem is I need more practice with backgrounds. So I'm working on it.

The character isn't really dark. Much more like Peter Parker than Bruce Wayne. I liked the contrast of the stigma of his abilities (being a rat) and his personality and values. I try to show that by giving his apperance a lighter feel too it (the big ears, and cheese axe). Maybe I missed the mark there.

I'm glad you made that statment about not taking him seriously or him not appealing to you. In the story he is seen as a joke, or expected to be a criminal. This of course creates conflict with the charcter in the plot.

Thanks for the review!
