This is my second to last random piece. I am still practicing photorealism and this one was a bit easier than the last few because of the gray scale use. This was roughly 10 hours worth of work. Please take time to leave a relevant response, your critiques help me to refine my techniques.

Thank you

Very well done in its painting style, It's clear to me that you really challenged yourself with this piece, you're trying various advanced techniques which are really hard to get right, and while some areas aren't perfect, the ambition and care taken bring it to a level of which you should be proud. Very good work, keep up the effort and thanks for sharing!

Thanks Jazza. Indeed this piece did take some time and it was the last piece I worked on in PS back in 2011...sad really.

Ho-ly Crap!

Dude! This is SOO well drawn!!! It's really hard to tell that it actually IS a drawing! The only part The part that gave it away to me seemed to be some of the baby's hair on his forehead and one or two of the stripes on the shirt. I would recommend just for nest time to not include the feathery/wispy parts of hair that seem to be not attached to the hair on the baby's forehead. I don't know if you intended it to be the shadow for the hair, but yeah. GREAT JOB!!!!!!

banegame responds:

Thank you. The shirt was probably the hardest part of the whole damn thing. Getting even shading for the stripes was more difficult than I thought it would be, and since it was close to the last part I worked on, I just let it be 'good enough'. I can see what you mean about the hair, in fact I was just telling a friend that in photorealistic drawings, the part that I always see giving it away is the hair and the rogue strands that just... don't fit. Here I am making the same mistake. Thanks for the input and I'll pay more attention to that next time

so hard to tell...

i honestly cant make out that is drawn, the level of focus to maintain the level of quality is outstanding... although the areas that i feel let it down are where you have the baby's hair "blending" in with the shirt/hair... it seems too blurred... i take it you used a photo to work from because apart from that tiny imperfection... i cant tell the difference...

banegame responds:

Yes, I used photo reference for this. It's a gift to the little girl for her 1st birthday. Not much to play with, but I've printed, laminated and framed it, so she'll have it much longer than her 1st year learning toys and such. I think a gift like this means a lot more than a trip to the local WALMART! Anyway, thank you, and as is common with art, perfection is hard to obtain. So much detail in photorealism that it's hard to stay focused when you just want to move on to the next detail. Even though it took only 10 hours, it felt like weeks...

Thanks!
