Been a long, long, LONG time since I've done any art... Like... 10+ years. And I finally decided to do something more than just a crappy doodle. Color and everything!

Meet Kira. Kira is the personification of my music, and a mascot of sorts for me.

nice

It looks fantastic!
But.... something's off.......
*looks at boobs*
Oh.
The body's a little weird... ( still looks cool though )

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

First time I've ever done anything below the neck honestly, anatomy, and clothes, are things I'm really gonna have to work on.

Looks great! But need some more effort with the body and what I like the most is the coloring!

It's so much easier to write reviews for things you do engage in (sometimes) yourself. Since colour was allread mentioned let's talk about something way harder - anatomy.

Due to, as mentioned below, shading it's not quite clear (to me) but imo the hood seems to attach/end at a weird point. The neck we don't see would attach slightly weird as well (and is probably pencil thin), the shoulders don't quite line up and anything in the lower left of that picture just seems to be superfluous - personally I'd had opted for a fade out into monochrome background. Alternatively doing something with that left arm would work too. The back needs to be lined out in some way, the unbroken flat black is just -wrong. It makes the entire picture kind of static and shifts the focus of the picture to much (which clearly should be the head but it's to far of the golden ratio).
Something bugs me about the eye too but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Three stars for doing something completely out of your comfort zone.

It's so much easier to point out what's wrong than doing it right yourself =I

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

All true, and hopefully I'll be improving on all that with more practice.

Nice job purgy-sama :>
the name kira reminds me of death note, heheh.

anyhow, this is pretty decent! The line art is okay, though you should definitely practice it a bit, as it's kind of shaky. The main problem though lies in your shading; It sorta looks like you used a gradient? If so, you should definitely stray far away from that. It'll look a lot better if you color with a brush, mixing and blending colors (and using opacity as needed) until you have something that works.

you still have a ways to go, but I believe you could get a lot better if you put your mind to it!
All that being said, do you mind if I make some fan art? you posting today reminded me that I should have been practicing myself, lol.

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

Yeah, I was trying out vectors... and I haven't really gotten a good feel for them yet.

As for the shading, I am actually blending. Basically, I splotch in my darker shades, and then use a blur brush to blend it in... I might have overdone it a little bit though, and that's probably why it looks kinda like a gradient.

And yeah, I really, really wanna get into art again, I have so many ideas I want to draw, but I lack the talent to do them... I want to change that.

And yeah, by all means, I'd love to see some fan art. If you're doing fan art though, I suppose I should clarify something. You can't see it in this picture because of the pose, but she has heterochromia, green right eye, yellow left.
Be sure to let me take a look when you finish whatever it is you plan on doing, I'd love to see it.
