This was done as fan-art for the MrConcept Art facebook page. It's a lot of fun. Go check it out.
The purpose is to parody the overwhelming amount of "futuristic soldiers" on every art site. Usually, a random soldier with photo-bashed mechanical armor and almost definitely an absurd mechanical object replacing the head. Finished off with excessive layers of effects, filters, chromatic aberration, and a touch of random Japanese letters with a graphics.

random japanese letters... huh. thats why you should never use it when you can't understand whats written there ;). first of all, the japanese letters (those are katakana by the way, not kanji or so) are mirror-inverted. my question: why?
also normally you would write letters if used up to bottom like this:

ト
(i hope newgrounds is capable of showing japanese letters)
so that its readable. for the japanese letters however you have to turn the picture 90 degrees so you can read em (apart from that being mirror-inverted). of course, if you want the viewers to turn the pic so you can read whats written there just write it like you did, but please also without being mirror-inverted.
at least you didnt fucked it up with the meaning behind those letters :P.
left side means: konseputoaato => conzept art
right side means: suupaa kuuru => super cool (lol why did ya use that word... doesnt fit at all xD)
even though it looks cool, its ineffective if you actually wanna read it, therefore just 4.5 instead of 5.

While I appreciate your detective work and getting into the review, I think you may be reading into the idea too much and the joke is going over your head.
Lol, didnt know you knew about him. The whole facebook concept art community was posting fanart of him all the time.

It's so popular because it's true and all the artists know about it. It's like a really solid joke, that's kinda sad because it's true, but also sticks around because it relates to so many people.
