After playing Guitar Hero, I decided to draw one of the whole band. Some inspiration from Dethklok.
From left: Kuroi Ryuu - rhythm guitar; Edge Miyazaki - lead guitar; Barrett "DevilFace" Myer - lead vocals; Kiyomi - bass guitar; Brent Damon - percussion.

Moody

Looks like everyone in this image has a problem with the artist / viewer, except for the kid on the far right of shot - he looks quite apathetic. You've worked well with the faces, but the expressions that they have there isn't really very different from one another. Perhaps have a little more wide ranging there, just for the practice.

With how it all pans out as a wider piece, you've got a good sky, but it could use being darker and more menacing, to let the lightning show up against the backdrop. Perhaps your scanner didn't pick this out too well?

Finally, when I look at the setup of the characters, the middle rank are too close together - they get too obstructed by the central figure's shoulders. Try pushing them wider and see what the results are. More cleavage for a start ;) Isn't that one of the major focuses of Manga style artwork?

I think you need some colour on this - inks would be my best bet to get the best results from this piece, but they do take a lot of practice, so you will need to spend a lot of time, before you move to this image. It's worth it though, as the payoff is usually pretty grand.

Thank you for your advice. You are right about the scanner. The sky was intended to be darker. As for the expressions, I was aiming for a dark look that would also look good either on the back of their first album or in the booklet. I have to agree that Edge and Kiyomi need to move just a little bit from DevilFace. Also, at the time, I didn't have the time to purchase colored inks. I also feel that colored pencils would be too bright to apply. Thank you for your time to review this picture. I appreciate your suggestions and compliments. Again, thanks. ^_^

Nice

I like overall mood of this picture, it's very dark and the lightening in the background fits very well to the image.

However, it seems as if the characters in the picture are all the same. The only noticeable difference is the haircut, but the eyes, eyebrows and mouths look more or less the same.
I can imagine that it is very hard to draw faces, but you really should try to make them more distinguishable. Maybe you could do that by adding colours to the picture.

Anyway, I like the details of the clothes they are wearing. Every character has it's unique style. I especially like the foldings on the clothes of Barrett (the guy in the middle). Those kind of things add very much to a picture, it just looks more realistic.

Thanks! I agree that I sometimes have a tendency to unintentionally make some faces look identical. This picture was actually done around September 2008. Thanks again for some helpful advice and compliments.

I like the overall mood of it. You set that well both with the black and with coloring and the lightning in the background. You also did a nice job of creating depth in that you made the guy in front look like he's actually in front, which is something that I see many people not doing. So, that's good.

The main problem that I see is proportions. The eyes are too large. They should be as wide as the distance between them. Although it's not a big mistake, the eyes are normally the focus of the face, and so they have a lot of attention being drawn to them. Additionally, the noses are drawn as though they're pointing off to the left because your only real defining line is on the left side. I suggest just outlining the bottom part of the nose and defining the rest of the nose structure with shading.

With the exception of Kiyomi, the shoulders all seem to be too wide.

Thanks! I have to agree that I need to work on proportions. The eyes are large because I'm used to drawing anime/manga, but you do have a point, though. Not all anime/manga eyes are large. I also realized that the pupils are too dilated, especially DevilFace's. I also see what you mean about the noses. I kinda got the positioning and shading off. I'm glad that you pointed those out. I'll be sure to keep them in mind when drawing more pictures. Again, thanks! ^_^
